Beached Boats Preview with Geoff Kersey ⎮ Watercolour Landscapes

To try the full tutorial sign up here bit.ly/2tFRjTy Even a cursory glance at the boat in the foreground of this scene, tells us that its days of going out to sea have long gone. However, it’s this rustic, weathered look, and depiction of decay that appealed to me about this little scene set on the north east coast of England. There are plenty of interesting watercolour lessons contained in thi...
Bagnoregio - Preview with Geoff Kersey ⎮ Watercolour Landscapes

To try the full tutorial sign up here bit.ly/2tFRjTy For my latest watercolour landscape tutorial, I have chosen the little hilltop village of Bagnoregio in central Italy. I was fortunate enough to visit there last spring and was immediately impressed by this view of it with the church spire almost breaking the horizon line, and the pedestrian bridge snaking in from the right, leading the eye t...
Stone Staircase - Preview with Geoff Kersey ⎮ Watercolour Landscapes

To try the full tutorial sign up here bit.ly/2tFRjTy Because I paint two new tutorials every month, I am always on the lookout for the next subject, often trying to seek out something a little unusual. So on this occasion, I was looking for something that gets a little bit away from what might be described as the traditional, bucolic landscape scene; like this set of weathered old stone steps o...
Hartsopp Hall - Preview with Geoff Kersey ⎮ Watercolour Landscapes

To try the full tutorial sign up here bit.ly/2tFRjTy For my latest watercolour landscape tutorial, I have chosen to work from a photo I took on a recent hike in the Lake District. The subject is a farmhouse owned by the National Trust called Hartsop Hall which is near Ullswater in the Lake District. We recently used this scene in a social media post and got a good response with many requests to...
The Tiny Hamlet of Edensor, Derbyshire - Preview with Geoff Kersey ⎮ Watercolour Landscapes

To try the full tutorial sign up here bit.ly/2tFRjTy For this week’s tutorial, I have chosen the track from the small Derbyshire Hamlet of Edensor (pronounced "Ensor") which forms part of the Chatsworth estate in Derbyshire. I was drawn to the unusual detail of the building; the hard angles which contrast perfectly with the softer forms of the foliage that surround it, particularly at ground le...
Saskatchewan Barn - Preview with Geoff Kersey ⎮ Watercolour Landscapes
Просмотров 1,8 тыс.2 месяца назад
For this week’s tutorial subject I was specifically looking for a grade 1, as I feel we are possibly a bit light on these. As soon as I saw this photo I was inspired by the weathered old timbers of the rustic barn, complimented by the tall structure of the old iron tower, sitting under a heavy, threatening sky. I also liked the tall marsh grasses in the foreground, which I decided to treat quit...
Footbridge in the New Forest - Preview with Geoff Kersey ⎮ Watercolour Landscapes

To try the full tutorial sign up here bit.ly/2tFRjTy The New Forest in Hampshire is a great place for a long walk, especially if you’ve got your camera with you and are on the lookout for painting subjects. It was on just such a walk when I came across this little stream running through the woods, featuring an old rustic footbridge. This provides us with an interesting focal point, and a harder...

To try the full tutorial sign up here bit.ly/2tFRjTy For this latest watercolour landscape tutorial we are back in my home county of Derbyshire with this view of Peveril Castle in Cavedale. Just outside the village of Castleton, it’s a great subject providing us with an excellent focal point amid the rocky, green, rolling landscape typical of this area. I have had many requests to paint this su...
Elmley Castle- Preview with Geoff Kersey ⎮ Watercolour Landscapes

To try the full tutorial sign up here bit.ly/2tFRjTy I came across this pretty little village in Worcestershire recently, at the end of a long walk, on a bright summer afternoon. It immediately occurred to me that it would make a good tutorial subject, as I had been on the lookout for what I would call the "quintessentially English village". I liked the thatched roofs and red brick chimneys of ...
Winter in Edensor - Preview with Geoff Kersey ⎮ Watercolour Landscapes
Просмотров 2,3 тыс.5 месяцев назад
To try the full tutorial sign up here bit.ly/2tFRjTy I didn’t have to venture far from home for my latest winter painting subject; the pretty village of Edensor in the Derbyshire Peak District. I am working from a photo I took a few years ago on a walk in Chatsworth Park, when there was a thin layer of snow settled on the landscape. It does appear quite busy and involved at first glance, but I ...
Boats on the River Alde - Preview with Geoff Kersey ⎮ Watercolour Landscapes

To try the full tutorial sign up here bit.ly/2tFRjTy In this painting we start off with a beautiful evening sky; creating the sweeping shapes of the purple clouds and the warm yellow/orange hues at the horizon with broad, bold brush strokes, before continuing these unifying colours into the middle distance and foreground, to create a harmonious feel to the whole scene. Capturing the detail of t...
Fallow Deer In Winter -Preview with Geoff Kersey ⎮ Watercolour Landscapes

To try the full tutorial sign up here bit.ly/2tFRjTy "In this scene, the second of the Christmas tutorials, I have chosen a slightly less traditional landscape composition, with no sky or distance. Here we are looking down on a snow-covered river bank, with long blue shadows, just a glimpse of the base of the trees and a Fallow Deer taking a drink from the slow-moving river. I’m not known for p...
Froggatt Woods in Winter PREVIEW with Geoff Kersey ⎮ Watercolour Landscapes
Просмотров 2,9 тыс.7 месяцев назад
To try the full tutorial sign up here bit.ly/2tFRjTy For the first of this year’s festive tutorials, I’ve chosen a well worn footpath in my native Peak District. The setting is a bright winter’s morning after a light snowfall. There’s the vague outline of a path leading us across a moorland landscape, strewn with boulders and occasional glimpses of the russet tones of bracken, poking through th...
Forest Glade - Preview with Geoff Kersey ⎮ Watercolour Landscapes

To try the full tutorial sign up here bit.ly/2tFRjTy At this time of year, I always like to do a tutorial based on a Forest or Woodland, so I can take advantage of the beautiful colours provided by the all-too-brief autumn season. I love this type of subject, where, rather than looking at individual trees we are seeing trees "en masse". I realise that initially, this can appear quite complex an...
Covered Bridge, New England - Preview with Geoff Kersey ⎮ Watercolour Landscapes

To try the full tutorial sign up here bit.ly/2tFRjTy For this Autumn painting project, I’ve chosen as the subject a covered bridge in New England. There are so many of the kinds of elements I love to paint included in this landscape. It’s got a bridge spanning rushing water, rocks and boulders in a variety of shapes and sizes, and the fascinating weathered timber structure of the bridge itself;...

I really love it Geoff I really would love to take classes from you I watch my grandkids probably by the time they grow up I'm going to be too old I wished you had a few more free things on RUclips just so I could get better. I believe the most important part is getting a good picture. Also I think I don't have the patience to wait for my paint to dry. But I really hope I can take a class from you one day😊
Check out his books! They're very good😊
Great job, especially the running commentary as to the objectives of each segment of the process, optional approaches, and the how/what you're doing to execute the selected approach. I especially liked when you not only voiced a critical assessment of something that didn't quite work and then provided remedial techniques/approaches as a fix. I've subscribed, so keep up your good efforts and BTW, I just purchased a hardcover copy of your "100 Tips" book on Amazon. 👍👴
Thank you for your generous sharing. 🙏
Very helpful. Thank you!❤
Geoff, if you manage to see this, what weight paper are you using in this example?
Geoff, this was such a great introduction on how to think through the construction process the dark to light values etc, and complete the scene with great results! thank you
Beautiful, I can’t wait to give this a try Geoff 😊❤🇺🇸!

Absolutely stunning! I was rubbish at art in school, but I’ve always wanted to learn to draw and paint! I find mixing the colours hard, but watching you and how you tell us the names of each one is fantastic, your a great teacher and produce exquisite work!!! So at 68 years young I’m having a go!!! Thank you so much from a new subscriber ! Annette 👍

In order to see the proportions properly It would be more helpful if the camera wasn't skewed at that angle. Just one head-on shot would be nice.
This looks like a photo! 😱❤
great stuff! Thank you! Mysteries (as to why my figures stink) have been solved! LOL!
Great tutorial, I learnt a lot, many thanks.
How would I remove the wax afterwards?
